JOJU SIR SEMINAR- CLOUD COMPUTING WORD

PRESENTED
BY
ELIZABETH MATHEW
INTRODUCTION
With traditional desktop computing, we run copies of software programs
on our own computer. The documents we create are stored on our own PC. Although
documents can be accessed from other computers on the network, they cannot be
accessed by computers outside the network. This is PC centric.
With cloud computing, the software
programmes one use aren’t run from one’s PC, but are rather stored on servers
accessed via the internet. If a computer crashes, the software is still
available for others to use. Same goes for the document one creates; they’re
stored on a collection of servers accessed via the internet. Anyone with
permission can not only access the document, but can also edit and collaborate
on those documents in real time. Unlike traditional computing, this cloud
computing model isn’t PC centric, its document centric.
DEFINITION
Ø Cloud
computing is a type of computing that relies on sharing computer resources
rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications.
Ø A type of internet based computing where different
services such as servers, storage, applications are delivered to an organization’s
computers and devices through the internet.
Ø A
model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on demand network access to a shared
pool of configurable computing resources(e.g.; networks, servers, storage,
applications and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with
minimal management effort or service provider interaction” NIST (US
National Institute of Standards and Technology)
Ø Cloud computing is an extension of
the concept of distributing computing- which is the process of running a
program or application over many computers connected by a network. The internet
makes this process easily achievable even for the general use.
Ø Cloud computing is an internet
based computing in which shared resources, software and information are
delivered as a service that computers or mobile devices can access on demand.
EXAMPLES
Google App, e mail, you tube,
twitter and drop box
CHARECTERISTICS
Ø Virtually assemble
Ø Pay per use
Ø Shared workloads
Ø Massive scale
Ø On demand self service
Ø Off site technology
PRESENT EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
v It based
v Facing a future where majority of educational
services will be hosted in a cloud
CLOUD COMPUTING IN
EDUCATION
Enables users to access data
via the internet.
Main users of
institution are connected to the cloud.
Separate login
for all the users for their respective work.
Main
users includes students, faculty, classes at college, administrative
department, examination branch, class preparation and review at home by
faculty, migration to other colleges etc.
A.
Advantages for the teachers
Ø Upload
their class tutorials, assignments and tests on cloud.
Ø Identify
the problem areas of students
Ø Analyze
students study records
Ø Allow
teachers to improve teaching materials and method
Ø Personal
attention can be given to students.
Ø could
cover more portions
Ø Transform
passive to an active classroom
Ø Teacher
can collaborate to share their ideas online
Ø provide
strategies to teach according to individual difference
B. Advantages for students
Ø Can use online teaching materials
Ø access these materials at home
Ø Can clarify their doubts personally
Ø 24 x 7 teacher
Ø Gets training for self instruction
Ø Motivated and increase the attention level
Ø Develop research skills at younger ages
Ø enhance interaction with teachers and friends
Ø Update with happenings in the world
C. Advantages for educational institution
Ø Institutions
no longer have to host their own data centers.
Ø No
expensive hardware needed
Ø No
power bills
Ø No
staff salaries
GENERAL BENEFITS OF CLOUD COMPUTING
· Personalized learning
:
v great
student choice
v can
access wide array of resources
v select
software that suit their learning styles and interest
· reduced cost
v can use applications for free
without having to purchase, install
v can keep applications up-to-date
for free
v for some application facility of
pay per use
· accessibility
v 24 x 7 accessibility
v Can login and access information
from anywhere
· No extra infrastructure
v Present goal of institutions is to
make more research facilities available
v Make environment global
v Need not worry about building,
labs, teachers as everything available virtually in cloud
· Go green
v Reduce the carbon foot print
· User friendly
v Easy to understand and easy to
operate
· Instant software update
· Unlimited storage
capacity
· Universal document
access
DISADVANTAGES
Easy to hack: protection of data is a major issue
Unsolicited advertising: provide with target users
with unsolicited email or advertising
Requires constant internet connection
Does not work well with low speed computers
Individuals may at time feel lonely and impersonal.
CONCLUSION
The
cloud will be the next evolution in the history of computing. It has caught the
imagination of consumers, businesses, financial analyst and educational
departments.
