INTRODUCTION
The word ‘pedagogy’ comes from the
greek word ‘paidagogas’ in which ‘paida’ means ‘child’ and ‘agos’ means ‘lead’
literally translated ‘to lead the child’. In ancient Greece, a slave – paidagogas
was assigned to a wealthy master’s son, to take him to school, supervise him
while in school, and carrying his equipment such as musical instrument, etc.
Pedagogy is the science and art of
education specifically instructional theory. It is the study of being a
teacher. The term generally refers to strategies of instruction, or a style of
instruction.
PEDAGOGIC ANALYSIS
Analysis
is the process of breaking or separating a thing into its smaller parts,
elements or constituents. We can break the contents of the course in a subject
into its various constituents- major and minor sections, sub sections, units
and sub units, major concepts and minor concepts, topics etc by carrying out a
process of content analysis.
“The analysis of a given content material
in any subject, any topic carried out well in the spirit of science of teaching
is known by the term pedagogical analysis of the content.
Pedagogic
analysis means the logical and systematical breaking up of
the curriculum from the point of view of a pedagogue
for the purpose of effective transaction. Pedagogue means teacher, school
master, educator, educationalist, etc.
SCOPE
OF PEDAGOGIC ANALYSIS
The
scope of pedagogic analysis is as follows:
1. It
forms an integral part of curriculum in all teacher education programs
2. It
helps teacher to set educational goals in accordance with the needs and
abilities of the learner as well as the characteristics of content knowledge.
3. It
provides deeper insight into the curricular material and enables him to plan
for realizing maximum out put
4. It
helps the teacher in pooling the resources required for effective instruction.
5. It
would help the teacher to search for effective tools and to be prepared for
handling such situations.
6. It
enables the teacher to search for effective tools and techniques for continuous
evaluation and to use the result of these evaluations for monitoring the
instructional process.
